One of our fantastic volunteers, Sara Thompson is coming out to Ghana in January 2016 to work on some specific projects in Lawra. She is looking for support to enable her to cover her costs. Read about it here……..

Background

As many of you are probably aware I have been volunteering for an amazing Ramsbury based charity, Action Through Enterprise (ATE), since I left Prospect Hospice in March of this year. I am working voluntarily as ATE’s bookkeeper and have also been involved with helping to organise some of the fundraising events that we have held over the past few months.

I feel really passionate about ATE’s work, they are making a massive difference to the lives of so many people. You can find out more about their work at www.ateghana.org

Opportunity

Having learnt more about this charity, and the totally inspirational work that they do with children and adults in Upper West Ghana, I have now been offered the most amazing opportunity to travel out there in January 2016 and help work as a volunteer on various projects that are currently running.

My role within the team

I will be working in Lawra for two weeks, supporting the three projects ATE runs. I will be with severely disabled children and their parents, evaluating the success of the 49 small businesses set up by ATE, and helping with the monitoring and evaluation of the health and welfare of the 654 children that ATE provides a free school meal for every day. My nursing background will be a big help to me in challenges I will face!

Why I need sponsorship

This is such an exciting opportunity for me, and I really feel I will be able to make a difference to the children and adults that I will have the privilege of working with. As ATE is a small, young charity with limited resources, I have to fund the trip myself. I am therefore launching this appeal to try and raise as much sponsorship money as possible to cover some of the costs involved.

The cost of the trip is broken down as such:

Flights: £806

Vaccinations: £150

Malaria prophelexis: £40

Visa: £160

Travel Insurance: £60

Travel to and from UK airport: £120

Hotel accommodation in Accra – one night each end of the trip: £100

Bus journey (18 hours) from Accra to Lawra – both ways: £40

Food when in Lawra; £56

Translator and motorbike driver in Lawra: £80

 Total cost: £1612

Any donation is hugely appreciated and if you would like your donation to go to a specific area of the costs please let me know and I will make sure that it is allocated accordingly. Thank you so much!

So this is my target. Please help me to reach it by donating at: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/sarathompson1
