Education
The key to unlocking opportunityWe have one simple aim: to enable children to attend school, with full stomachs, educational resources and whatever else they need to succeed.
Without support, only a quarter of children in Lawra will complete basic education. With our backing, 4500 young people have already been able to stay in school – and our growth plans should see us double that in a few years.
We work with nine schools across Lawra District and four in Nandom– many extremely rural – providing daily meals, educational materials and sanitary pads. And we launch in our two more Nandom schools in 2027 too!
The impact of our education programme is clear: average attendance isis up from 30% to over 85%. And Biro Hunior High School – where we have also supported girls to attend senior high school, was the only school in Lawra with a 100% exam pass rate!

“ATE’s support has helped reduce burden on our parents who could not afford so many things for us. With this support, we get more time to learn because we don’t need to labour in order to get money to buy books.”
Amedius, student at Koro JHS
It’s often much harder for girls to stay in school in Upper West Ghana, but the longer they stay in education, the better their life chances and the less likely they’ll have an early marriage or pregnancy.
We support young women with advocacy, mentoring and, where necessary, the provision of sanitary items, meaning they can attend school all month long. As a result, attendance of girls in our partner schools has increased by 48% since 2022.
A pilot project, supporting girls from the most rural schools to attend senior High School, was extremely popular – with one girl, Lucy, having now graduated university. Agnes is training to be a nurse – and her sister Olivia is an ATE Hub Coordinator! A remarkable achievement in a village where no girls had ever attended SHS. In 2026, we have supported a huge cohort of 40 girls to attend senior high schools, so there are lots of roles models in the making!
“Because of the food and textbooks ATE provided, it helped us stay in school and also learn hard. Whatever I am today, and whatever I will be tomorrow, is all because of ATE,”
