THE 59th annual charter lunch was held by Newbury and District Soroptimists on Sunday 12th April.

The group, which meets twice monthly, comprises 21 women who strive to support charitable causes, and the annual charter lunch provides a chance for all the members to celebrate their achievements. Guests included group president Katy Hawthorne and Newbury mayor Jo Day.

The Newbury and District Soroptimists supported ATE earlier this year when they made 25 dresses from pillow cases, to be delivered to young girls in the remote Ghanaian village of Lawra.

Speaking at the event was Sarah Gardner, the chief executive of Action Through Enterprise, which started up in Ramsbury, who was presented with a surprise cheque for £250 towards the Ghana charity’s school feeding programme.

Miss Gardner said following the donation on Sunday: “I am so grateful for the support of the Newbury and District Soroptimists.

“This very generous £250 donation will go a long way to help the vulnerable children and adults that we are working with in Ghana.

“Thank you so much.”
