It’s National Stationery Week!
Did you know, it costs just 8p to buy a pupil at Karbo Primary School a pencil, 12p for a pen and 30p for a school exercise book?
In the UK and across the western world, we often take the availability of stationery for granted. Pens are given away by companies, charities and in most high street banks. But in Lawra, stationery is a luxury which many families cannot afford. Worse still, children cannot attend school without having uniforms and required stationery and utensils – including pens and pencils.
Every 6months, ATE provides 2 pencils for all children from foundation age to school year four, and one pen for all children in school years five and six. Each child will also be given three exercise books. The total cost to ATE per child is £1.06 for the younger children, of which there are 381 pupils, and £1.02 for the older children – 103 pupils.
In August, ATE hopes to spend £509 on providing this essential stationery at Karbo Primary School to enable these children to have an education and start the new school year in September.
Could you help us to help these children this National Stationery Week? Any donation, no matter how small or large, will make a huge difference to a child’s education in Lawra. Every person who donates to this project, will receive a photograph and report of the children that receive the materials purchased with the specific donation.
