Today is international women’s day. This is a global celebration of women, offering respect and appreciation for their many achievements; social, political and cultural. The women of Lawra are a magnificent example of love and courage in action. This is particularly true of the mothers, grandmothers and aunties who are part of our Special Needs Awareness Programme, many of whom have fought against cultural norms to improve the lives of their children with special needs.
Here is Peace and her daughter Blessing who is profoundly disabled. Peace works tirelessly to love and support Blessing, as well as her other 3 children and extended family. This graceful, hard working and loving woman is nothing but inspirational. To be in her presence is an experience of pure grace; humbling and beautiful.
We want to pause today; to honour Peace and all the other magnificent women of Lawra who have enriched the lives of so many in their family and their community with their humility, fortitude and presence.
