SNAP (Special Needs Awareness Programme) support group meetings in Lawra, reach around 100 families with disabled children each year.
The SNAP meetings are run by a committee of local parents with disabled children themselves. The SNAP Lawra committee members began as SNAP group members and have grown in confidence to now lead the monthly meetings, and encourage and support others in their community who experience similar struggles to those they have faced.
ATE provide some financial assistance for transportation for those children with disabilities and their families who travel from rural areas to attend the SNAP meeting at the Teachers Resource Centre in Lawra Town.
ATE is developing plans for the future to create additional SNAP meeting hubs across the district in order to bring the support closer to the doorsteps of those who need.
